The Mind Boost Program is a mental health program designed for individuals living with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D). This program aims to address the mental health challenges of living with T1D and offers interactive and transformational workshop experiences. Strategies provided are based on Cognitive Behaviour Therapy principles and Mindfulness practices. Participants will engage in activities designed to explore each of the areas of emotions, thoughts and behaviours. Practical techniques are introduced in the workshops and practiced at home.

Workshops are being offered by the team of Catherine Lauber, Registered Psychotherapist and Denise Lowe, Educator and T1D Parent.

Mind Boost for Parents:

Dealing with the Difficulties of Type 1 Diabetes

A self care program for T1D caregivers

Keeping yourself healthy is essential to your role in supporting your child.

Mind Boost for Parents is an integrative workshop series focusing on 7 dimensions of health and wellness. This holistic program is for parents and caregivers and is designed to help you learn tools and strategies for self care. Weekly, 2-hour workshops include the latest research, meditations, small group activities, and exercises to practice at home.

Topics include:

Session 1: Introduction and Physical Health
Introducing the model as a holistic approach to health and wellness. Physical health topics range from recognizing the physical drain of being a caregiver and tips on getting good sleep, to ways of creating excitement about physical activity and exercise.

Session 2: Nutrition
Take a time out from counting carbs for your kids. Learn how nutrition can help you to reduce the physical and mental effects of chronic stress. Tips on how to use food to give your body the fuel it needs to manage the demands of caregiving.

Session 3: Emotional and Mental Health
Chronic illness puts a heavy psychological toll on caregivers. Attending to your own emotional and mental health needs helps to reduce the strain of providing care. Here is an opportunity to practice mindfulness techniques, and learn stress-busting tools and tips for a healthy mind.

Session 4: Financial Wellness
Feeling the strain of extra costs associated with care for someone with T1D? Activities designed to help you shift your money mindset, claim your power over finances and overcome the emotional attachment to money.

Session 5: Healthy Relationships
Having a child with a chronic illness will put extra stress on any family. We will practice using communication tools to help reduce family conflict, and learn strategies for maintaining effective communication in the midst of stress.

Session 6: Spiritual Health
Self care requires you to maintain your own personal sense of identity, meaning and purpose. An often missed component of health, we present spirituality as a mindset, rather than a set of beliefs. We engage in reflection and meditation practices to help you connect with your inner strength, allowing you to continue to give your best care.
